Local Policy Support for Participatory Management
An effective and integrated public outreach and communications strategy will be used to increase stakeholder awareness of and support for effective watershed management in ESP watershed management sites. This includes supporting various activities, such as conservation awareness campaigns, as well as regular public awareness campaigns.
Upper-watershed conservation awareness campaigns will be in depth one-year programs that include campaign coordinator training and then implementation of a 12-step initiative. Meanwhile, regular public awareness campaigns will last for one month and are intended to inform the public of specific ESP or BHS issues, and then foster a “call-to-action” in response to these issues. The integrated approach to public outreach and communications promotes the development of watershed management plans so as to ensure the support of the different stakeholders. Efforts to improve awareness will continue during the implementation of the watershed management plans in order to increase public support.
