Indonesia is currently facing an urban water and sanitation crisis, with investment by local government water utilities lagging far behind population growth. One of the goals of ESP is to bring about real improvements in this area by helping to ensure access to commercial finance for local governments and their water utilities so as to improve and expand the availability of piped water supply and sanitation facilities. In order to achieve this goal, ESP will avail of both traditional and innovative approaches so as to encourage new investment in environmental infrastructure.

Among the key tasks of the Environmental Services Finance Team are:

• Assessing and improving the willingness of communities to pay full cost recovery tariffs
• Raising corporate finance for local governments and their water utilities
• Raising alternative finance for watershed and biodiversity conservation
