Buku ini dipersembahkan bagi masyarakat luas, terutama pemangku kepentingan di tingkat lokal, LSM, bank, dan Pemerintah. Sudah waktunya mereka mendapat pemahaman lebih baik mengenai peran PDAM dalam memberikan layanan air minum untuk masyarakat. Tujuh PDAM dipilih dengan pertimbangan bahwa mereka memiliki kekhususan prestasi yang patut diangkat menjadi inspirasi bagi PDAM lain. Di antara ketujuh PDAM itu, ada empat yang selama ini menggalang kerjasama dengan ESP, yakni PDAM Kota Sibolga, PDAM Kabupaten Bandung, PDAM Kota Bogor, dan PDAM Kota Malang.
Dalam kerjasama tersebut ESP memberikan dukungan pendampingan teknis dan pembiayaan bersama. ESP berharap buku ini dapat menjadi inspirasi bagi PDAM-PDAM untuk mengambil langkah maju agar menjadi perusahaan yang sehat dan profesional. Sehingga mereka mampu memberikan layanan air minum berkualitas, efisien, dan terjangkau.
The scope of this paper is to explain the legal and regulatory framework governing water supply finance, to provide a summary of the current situation and the problems which are impeding progress towards extending the service coverage and Millennium Development Goals (MDG), and finally to describe the approach now being taken by the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) to improve PDAM performance and how donor support has assisted and can continue to support capacity-building in the industry. Pulo Kandang’s 750 densely packed households are situated on swampy land and are built from used materials including wood, steel, bamboo and cardboard. Yogyakarta. The village of Darakan in the Sub-district of Prenggan, District of Kota Gede, Yogyakarta, is one of the villages through which the Gadjah Wong river flows. The locals have varied professions; most of them are laborers, some are office workers, and some are silver craftsmen, as Kota Gede has long been known as Yogyakarta’s center for silver crafts.
Medan. For the past year, ESP has been training the people of Sampe Raya Village and Timbang Lawan in Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, on environmentally friendly farming practices. Situated in Gunung Leuser National Forest, Langkat has vast natural resource potential, which provides a source of welfare for the people living in the surrounding areas. That is not to mention the potential for ecotourism, including the conservation of orangutans and the local river, which is a popular site for cubbing, a water sport using inner tubes.

This report documents the action research conducted on point-of-use drinking water treatment alternatives appropriate for underprivileged households in Jakarta. An introduction to the scope of work and project summary is first given. Second, technology research is covered, specifically boiling, isi-ulang, chlorination, ceramic filtration, and SODIS, which are each discussed with regards to background, technology, perception, and limitations.

Aceh. Isniar, 42 tahun, adalah warga Dusun Jabi, Desa Lhok Timon, Aceh Jaya, yang turut menjadi korban bencana tsunami 2004. Salah satu cara pemilik kedai kopi ini untuk bangkit dari keterpurukan adalah memanfaatkan sampah plastik menjadi produk-produk yang berguna seperti hiasan rumah dan tas dari bungkus kopi.
Pengetahuan ibu empat anak ini tentang pemanfaatan sampah semakin bertambah setelah mengikuti pelatiahn yang diadakan ESP dan Oxfam awal Desember 2007 dan studi banding ke wilayah kerja ESP Jawa Barat di Bandung.
Melihat minat dan ketekunan yang luar biasa dari diri Ibu Isniar, dia terpilih menjadi fasilitator desa yang akan memfasilitasi desa-desa lain di Aceh Jaya untuk kegiatan persampahan. Di Dusun Jabi sendiri kegiatan membuat kerajinan dari sampah plastic rutin dilakukan setiap hari Minggu selama 4 jam.
Jadwal Isniar lumayan padat, Dia baru saja selesai membantu ibu-ibu PKK, peserta Sekolah Lapangan dan guru- guru di Kecamatan Lhoong Aceh Besar belajar mengolah sampah selama 2 hari. Selanjutnya, dia akan melatih ibu-ibu lain di Kecamatan Meurubo Aceh.
Sesibuk apa pun dia, Isniar tak pernah lelah dan bosan menyemanagti peserta pelatihan lainnya. “Ayo kita jadikan sampah penghasilan tambahan kita,” katanya.
